What the Left Really Wants for Women
It is no secret that the radical Left is doing everything it can to erase every common-sense law related to abortion, consequently putting women in even greater danger. In fact, they’re actually proud of it. While preaching “choice” and “trusting women,” their policies guarantee the exact opposite. In a sweeping move, the Virginia House and Senate this year carried out the removal of decades worth of safety and precautionary provisions for women and unborn children before, during, and after abortions. Following that, SB 920 (R-Peake), designed to protect surrogate mothers from being forced to undergo and abortion or “fetal reduction,” failed to even receive a hearing in the House of Delegates after it had passed in the Senate 40-0.
Such actions reveal what today’s Left truly wants and who many of these so-called feminists really are. In reality, the ideology of feminism is toxic and actually suppresses the rights of women it claims to champion. It paints the lie that abortion is a woman’s independent and absolute right to choose. They even call their side “pro-choice.” Yet, if a woman enters into a surrogacy contract that results in twins (or multiples), but the contractual parents only want one child, they can actually force the pregnant woman to have an abortion. Apparently, House leadership wanted that policy to remain in place. And now, if a woman goes to an abortion clinic, she will no longer be offered to see her ultrasound (and may not have an ultrasound performed at all), or to hear the fetal heart tone, or receive information about the gestational development of her child, or receive information about her options (e.g. adoption), or be provided information on the risks and complications associated with the procedures, or be provided a 24-hour wait period common to other medical procedures.
In essence, the Left wants women to choose, but only if it involves one option: Abortion. That is not true freedom.
This “feminist” ideology is not only contrary to our traditional cultural values in America, but more importantly, it stands in opposition to Biblical truths about God’s design for men and women, which lead to human flourishing. God did not create women as inferior or of lesser quality than men, but He did not create them to be above men, either. The same ideology that cries empowerment for women, in reality seeks to tear down and destroy the very design God has for women. The Bible is filled with beautiful stories of God using women in the unique roles that He created for them. Take for example Mary, who was chosen to bear the Son of God who came to save the world, or Esther, who became the wife of King Ahasuerus and was uniquely positioned to use her influence to intervene and save God’s people. There are so many others.
Feminism, however, is opposed to God’s special design for women. Biblical marriage as God ordained it? That’s merely a vestige of the evil “patriarchy” in the eyes of feminists. Motherhood? A hindrance to “pursuing one’s dreams” that must be overcome or “dealt with.” Both women and men should embrace how God has made them and reject the lies of feminism. Then, and only then, will they experience their greatest sense of value, purpose, and joy. And ultimately, it’s the only way our culture will be able to ensure women, born and unborn, will remain protected, valued and cherished.
